Rupture, An Official Fiction / 2015

Rupture, An Official Fiction is a collaboration between the artists Victor Leguy and Laura Belém. The installation developed especially for the exhibition
"Wanted" deals with the past of the house that now houses the Tofiq house, promoting a game between fact and fiction invites the viewer to reflection.
The work relates to the Constitutionalist Revolution of 1932, an armed revolt led by the State of São Paulo and involved a lot of São Paulo civilians, including women. It is a controversial story, in which the press of the time, by modifying facts to manipulate the population, played a key role in shaping public opinion and in calling civilians to the front.
São Paulo suffered from a chronic shortage of arms and ammunition. In this context, this house was used as a gathering spot for several metal objects to be melted and turned into military equipment for the Revolution, as shown in the very owner of the property, Evelina S., who participated in the organization of supplies in the making uniform and the gathering of metals.
The floating objects - referring to the brief of metals around the house and its consequent transformation into weapons as well as the very historical instability that moment - synthesize the structural form of the house by representing its hydraulic plant. The audio work, raises the possibility of what is true or false in this story marked by economic interests and socio-political, exposing some of its contradictions and pointing to the relevance of its content.
The installation adds new information to the history of the house and of the 1932 Revolution, and the library itself acquires poetic meaning when we think of their traditional role of serving as a haven and shelter of history, containing books and documents, in theory, is the truth from the past.
